STEP 1: IDENTIFY THE ROOT CAUSE OF YOUR ISSUE,
CLARIFY YOUR GOALS

We will go through your history in depth, and I will carry out an assessment of your current problem area as well as your overall movement patterns.

Injury, physical and/or emotional stressors can be disruptive, and over time we learn to compensate for weak and painful areas by using other muscles, often creating more pain!
We will also identify your specific goals,

these may simple daily activities that you are struggling with at the moment, or specific fitness goals.

STEP 2: HANDS-ON TREATMENT AND ADVICE

Using the ''Be Activated'' approach, I will work on specific pressure points to 'rewire' and fire up muscles that are not working efficiently. We will test your muscles before and after so we can check the effect the treatment is having.

I will also give you advice based on the latest evidence, and use a combination of other physiotherapy techniques such as mobilisation, kinesiology taping and soft tissue work, as appropriate

STEP 3: RETURN TO PLAY &

BUILDING RESILIENCE

I will provide a personalised programme with self-activations (pressure points) and simple exercises to integrate the in-person sessions, and build strength and mobility. You'll work towards your specific goals, and your plan will be updated to challenge you until you've achieved them, or you have a clear roadmap so you can carry on on your own.  I can also design a simple yoga programme to support you in the process.

TESTIMONIALS

"I had very obvious muscle imbalances before Emma treated me, mostly due to an old knee injury. Emma treated me using activations, always explaning the rationale for doing so and what improvements I would experience. I truly appreciated her scientific approach and, most importantly, I managed to go back running and cycling as planned. Thank you!"

"Before I saw Emma I had no idea just how powerfully healing a good physio can be!  I’d had over a decade of intermittent neck and shoulder pain, sore wrists and a popped rib from my last pregnancy (12 years prior). So, my issues were somewhat ’set in’ but within 2 sessions the pain in my shoulders and neck eased massively and my mobility returned. Within 4 sessions I felt fixed. Amazing! As long as I do my part and keep up my exercises I feel able keep on top of these weak spots and after being in a lot of pain for so long it’s quite wonderful to be free of all that.

But I haven’t told you the best bit which is that Emma is a truly lovely person who cares deeply about her work and her clients.   I have decided to have a check-in with her every 6 weeks to maintain the new flexibility she has given me and to enjoy some time with a true, healing professional."

When I went to see Emma, I had been suffering from pretty extreme sciatica for 3 months and was unable to walk, stand, sit or lie down without a pain, despite painkillers. I had seen a few different therapists during this time and although that helped, nothing really seemed to touch the underlying condition. Emma worked on my body using a variety of techniques to release, re-engage and realign, and after a few weeks I was able to stop using painkillers, and was moving much more normally. My pain reduced gradually over this time, and with the exercises she designed for me I have been able to build strength and regain my body’s normal functioning. The yoga program she gave me to go away with has built on the that, and I have been pain free for just over a month now. I still have some work to do to build enough muscle strength to keep everything healthy, and I still get an occasional really mild reminder that if I don’t keep active I might have another spell, but so far it has been FANTASTIC to have my body back. I’ve been walking swimming, cycling and SLEEPING absolutely normally. I still have to be a bit aware of how long and in which position I sit, but I cannot begin to say how grateful I am to Emma. So sincere thanks for everything!

About me

My name is Emma Marcello and I completed my physiotherapy training in Italy, Belgium and England and worked in NHS hospitals in neurological rehabilitation, community rehabilitation, orthopaedics, and women’s health.
I then started training with Douglas Heel of Be Activated, which really changed my perspective on how the body functions as a whole. It made my work more effective and fun! I moved into private practice focusing on using this concept and muscle activation techniques.

I lived in Chennai, India, for two years where as well as practising physiotherapy, volunteering at a school for children with Cerebral Palsy (and having a baby!) I trained as a yoga teacher and continue to practise and integrate that knowledge.

I am interested in everything that relates to the body from its anatomy to its connection with our emotions - I am always learning something new and am particularly fascinated by the field of embodiment and the body-mind connection.
My mission is to help you reconnect with your body and experience real shifts in your awareness of your body and your ability to do the things you love.  Do get in touch with any questions!

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
